If you’ve been searching for a cannabis dispensary in Kingston, NY, you may have noticed some changes in the local cannabis scene. A medical cannabis dispensary in the area recently closed its doors, leaving some patients wondering where they’re supposed to shop now.
The good news? The closure doesn’t mean Kingston cannabis customers are out of options.

And if you’d rather skip the dispensary altogether, online ordering and cannabis delivery can make the whole process even easier.
Dispensaries in Kingston, New York
Kingston has become part of New York’s growing legal cannabis market, giving adults access to licensed cannabis products without having to travel to another part of the Hudson Valley.
Like other communities across New York, Kingston’s cannabis landscape includes adult-use retail, meaning adults 21 and older can legally purchase cannabis products from licensed dispensaries.
And there’s quite a bit to choose from.
Depending on the dispensary, shoppers may find flower, pre-rolls, vape cartridges, edibles, concentrates, tinctures, beverages, CBD products, and other cannabis products. That variety makes it easier to find something that fits your preferences, whether you’re a longtime cannabis consumer or still figuring out which products work for you.
But what if you’re a medical cannabis patient?
Medical Dispensaries vs. Recreational Dispensaries in Kingston, NY
The terms “medical” and “recreational” can make it sound like there are two completely different types of cannabis. In reality, the distinction is more about how cannabis is regulated and purchased than the plant itself.
Differences Between Medical and Recreational Dispensaries
Medical cannabis dispensaries are specifically set up to serve registered medical cannabis patients. Depending on state regulations, medical patients can receive certain benefits that adult-use customers don’t, including potential tax advantages.
Adult-use dispensaries, meanwhile, are available to adults who meet the state’s age requirements. You don’t need to be a registered medical cannabis patient to shop at an adult-use dispensary.
For medical patients, one of the biggest reasons to continue shopping at a medical dispensary is the potential savings from medical cannabis tax benefits.
However, driving 40 minutes to a medical dispensary to save a few dollars doesn’t really make sense. In addition, many medical
How Medical and Recreational Dispensaries Are Similar
Many medical patients don’t realize you can shop at a licensed adult-use dispensary even if you use cannabis for medical purposes.
The cannabis itself isn’t suddenly different because you purchased it from an adult-use dispensary.
You’ll still find familiar products like flower, edibles, vapes, concentrates, and tinctures. Licensed cannabis products are also subject to New York’s regulatory and testing requirements.
So if you’ve been relying on cannabis as part of your wellness routine, you don’t necessarily have to stop just because a medical dispensary near you has closed.
You may simply need to change where you shop.
