Yes! You read it right. It’s time for the second installment of Lucky Green Ladies blogs on cannabis and how it relates to you! At Lucky Green Ladies, our Kingston Cannabis Dispensary & Weed Delivery service is committed to ensuring every cannabis consumer enjoys their products with a full picture of the science and effects behind the plant.
That’s why, as the Founder & CEO of Lucky Green Ladies, I’m putting together this three-part series to cover the basics of cannabis. Our focus in this second installment is on Sativa weed strains where we’ll discover the origins of the Sativa Cannabis plant, some of its terpenes, and possible uses for Sativa in the broader medical marijuana world!
What is Sativa?
Sativa finds its roots in the ideal climates of Southeast Asia, Central America, as well as Africa. These areas of the world provide ideal conditions for most plants: long warm days, high humidity, and ambient sunlight. Of course, this just so happens to also be the climate Sativa Cannabis loves, and it shows in the plant!
Sativa’s stem is much thinner than that of an Indica. The leaves themselves are also thinner, but longer. In an attempt to soak in as much sunlight as possible, the plant grows upwards of 10 to 14 feet tall on average. Much taller than Indica’s 3 to 6 feet tall growth on average. The nearly 7-week difference between Indica and Sativa’s flowering periods has much to do with the alternate expression. Of course, not having to battle windy mountainous conditions like its Hindu-Kush kin helps too.
The bud structure of Sativas also follows this pattern. Sativa weeds typically have longer, albeit wispier, buds less dense than their Indica relatives. To give credit where credit is due: Sativa weed, when cultivated properly, is able to grow to truly impressive bud lengths.
Why Does Sativa Feel Like That?
Well, to properly answer that question, I have to, once again, get boring with the answer: Cannabis Terpenes.
Weed terpenes, or “Terps” if you’re cool and hip, are responsible for how each weed strain feels, tastes, smells, and smokes. Weed terpenes can help explain why a Super Sour Diesel has a completely different smoking experience than that of a Sour Diesel, even if they were grown by the same cultivator!
Terpenes are found everywhere in the natural world. They dictate scent and effectiveness of household cleaning products, the flavor of your favorite tea, and the outstanding aromas of your grandmother’s flowers.
But in weed, terps are the cornerstone. A carefully cultivated terpene profile can make a strain shine. Wedding Cake’s pain relieving and appetite stimulating effects are amplified by Beta-Caryophyllene and Myrcene. Similarly, Guava’s fruity and gassy nose can be traced to its Limonene and Linalool.
Even a casual consumer should have a working knowledge of terpenes. Doing so will help you understand what’cha like, and what’cha don’t like! As a reminder, every strain covered in this article contains a link to the Lucky Green Ladies Kingston NY Cannabis Dispensary and Weed Delivery website where you can purchase that strain.
Terpinolene
Starting our list of Sativa weed’s top terpenes strong, we have terpinolene! Or what it’s known as in the broader cannabis cultivation industry, “The least-common, common terp.” Terpinolene is found in trace amounts in countless weed strains across the board. However, few strains can claim this unique terpene as its primary one. That being said, the Sativa weed strains that do claim this terp are nothing short of classics.
Terpinolene closely resembles Pinene when it comes to scent. But strains that have a fuller expression of Terpinolene often feature notes of turpentine and citrus. This scent combination makes terpinolene commonly used in various cleaning products, and processed foods. In nature Terpinolene is found in things like lilac, tea tree, nutmeg, and even apricots.
Old-school “haze” fans often enjoy terpinolene, even if they don’t know it. Terpinolene is theorized as being responsible for the unmistakable characteristics of awareness and heightened creativity that make haze weed strains so beloved.
Sativa strains we carry at our Kingston, New York weed dispensary & Cannabis delivery that’re high in Terpinolene are:
These three strains, all claiming Terpinolene as its heavy hitter are widely beloved classics. Because of its prevalence across so many strains, terpinolene often plays a role in the uplifting and calming cerebral entourage effect as it interacts with other terpenes.

Alpha-Pinene
A-Pinene is similar to its relaxing counterpart only in name and scent alone, and even the scent part of that is a stretch. Yes, Alpha-Pinene and Beta-Pinene share the pine tree aroma. But B-Pinene has a woodier and forest-in-fall scent. A-Pinene is more reminiscent of pinesol, being much lighter and fresher on the nose than its Beta sibling.
As we covered in the previous installment, B-Pinene is often better for an end of the day, relaxing, taking the shoes off kind of experience. A-Pinene, on the other hand, is almost on the exact other end of the spectrum. It can be responsible for feelings of clear-minded focus, possible memory retention, and lifted spirits. In the natural world, Pinene, either Alpha or Beta, can be found in pine and conifer trees, but also rosemary and sage!
Sativa strains we carry here in our Kingston, New York weed dispensary & Cannabis delivery that’re high in Alpha-Pinene are:
Alpha-Pinene is a part of the all-star medical cannabis terpene list. It’s even evident when looking at the small list of strains I’ve collected above. Each strain, especially Blue Dream, are cornerstones in medical cannabis. They can assist with everything from mental-fog, to low energy and depressive ruts.
D-Limonene
Limonene, to the surprise of no one, is responsible for citrusy, uplifting, and deeply beloved sativa weed strains. The reason for the Limonene’s cult following largely is in part because of its mood-improving, stress melting nature. Unlike Myrcene, which is commonly causes the “sleepies,” Limonene is ideal for being outside on beautiful sunny day.
As you might expect, Limonene is found in the citrus peels. It’s also found in the likes of rosemary and mint, strangely enough.
Much like Pinene, Limonene is flush with potential therapeutic benefits in world of medical and recreational cannabis. Even the pharmaceutical world has taken note of this OG citrus weed terp’s mood enhancing properties and other benefits. Though it goes without saying that further studies are needed to make any concrete decisions.
Here are some Sativa strains that feature D-Limonene and available at our Kingston, New York weed dispensary & Cannabis delivery:
It should be noted that because of Limonene’s foothold in the superb world of Sativa weeds, many other strains are high in the Lemon-y terp’s profile. Check out our full Kingston, NY dispensary menu to see more, you’re even able to sort our menu by your favorite weed terp.
